Waldorf School Field Trip

On May 3rd, the second & third grades of the Waldorf School of New Orleans came to the farm to be farmers. Coming in after school as city kids, they spent the night in the bunkhouse and woke up the next morning as farmers! Pulling on their boots and jeans at 6:30 a.m. (we let them sleep in an extra couple of hours!) they went out to feed the horses and do farm chores even in the rain!

See below for photos and also see the schedule we created just for them. Thanks for coming and helping do farm chores! Ya'll come back and see us soon!! Have a great summer!

"Had a parent evening tonight with my parents, and the farm is all the buzz. The kids want to come back with families, I talked about Bed and Breakfast, some families want to come spend the day, and I also talked up horse camp. Hope you get to see some this summer! And then we'll be back with the whole class next year...can't wait! You and your farm are SO special!!"
-- Jan Lopez, 2nd & 3rd Grade Teacher, Teacher Liason, Board of Directors, May 2012

Bethany's boys learn their farm chores!!

Home-schooled boys Nate (age 11), Henry (10), and Buck (4, above) spent a week at Splendor Farms with mom (Bethany) riding horses and learning all about farm living!! Bethany and the boys are spending a year traveling the
US and globe, learning about history, literature, science, and art, while publishing an "edublog" with details from their travels. Brilliant!!

"Kelly, The boys and I had an incredible time here at Splendor Farms! Who knew a 5, 10, & 11 year old would bicker over who got to feed the chickens, who got to collect the eggs, who got to feed the goats?! The trail rides were beautiful and thanks for teaching us so much about horses and the other animals! Thanks to Brett for his guided rides and patience, too! Your guidance on day trips to New Orleans, Abita Springs, and Covington made for terrific adventures! Also, the breakfasts were delicious! Thanks for sharing your special place with our family!
--Bethany, Nate, Henry, & Buck D. of Greensboro, NC
