2-WEEK EQUINE SCIENCE SESSIONS - FALL 2010

October 5, 7, 12, & 14 - 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Each student will bring a lunch & a helmet (equestrian or bicycle).
Jeans & boots are required. Cost per student for each two-week session
is $200.00. There is a $30.00 non-refundable registration fee.
Sessions are limited to 6 girls ages 10 to 16.
All tuition for all sessions is due no later than September 24th.
Course Descriptions
Each Two week session will include four to six of the following subjects:
Equine Dentistry - This course covers several areas of dental care, maintenance, and problems and solutions, including wolf teeth removal, floating, wave and hook realignment, and a certified equine veterinarian will demonstrate the use of motorized and hand equipment.
Equine Massage Therapy - This course looks at the muscular skeletal system, massage techniques, stretches and pilates type exercises for your horse. There is plenty of hands on participation.
Equine Acupuncture - Introduction to the types of acupuncture commonly used in equine medicine-acupuncture, i.e. simple needling and laser stimulation, and identifying conditions where acupuncture could be beneficial. A demonstration will be given.
Equine Diet & Digestion - A lecture on the feeding of the horse from growing foal, to pregnant and lactating mare, to performance horse, to the retired backyard pet. A representative from a major feed manufacturing company and distribution center will speak to the students regarding different feeds and supplements.
Equine Wellness, Conformation, & Pre-Purchase Exam - A hands on and material course with live examples of various types of balanced and unbalanced conformation.
Equine Foot & Hoof Maintenance - Topics covered include routine hoof maintenance, emergency hoof care and injury treatment, hoof diseases, preventive health care tips, and explanations of various lamenesses by a Louisiana certified farrier.
Also: Daily grooming, saddling, and western horsemanship with lessons & trail ride.
