Splendor Farms has always bred the long haired miniature dachshund, but in my heart, there is something about the long standards that I can never resist!! So, I have purchased a red female, black & tan female, and 1/2 english cream female!
I have always been afraid of the hip/back problems, but the more I have researched the breed, I find bloodlines, diet, and exercise are the key to having healthy, beautiful, and loving standards doxies. Eukanuba and NUVET vitamins are key, and good exercise and no table scraps are necessary!!

In Germany, there are three sizes of dachshunds: Toy (our Miniature), Miniature, and Standard. In the United States, AKC only recognizes two sizes, i.e. Miniature and Standard. Miniatures weigh up to 11 pounds and Standards weigh 22 pounds and over. So, what do we do about the "in between" size from 12 to 21 pounds? Most of us who show and breed call them "Tweenies." If DCA (Dachshund Club of America) would recognize this "in between" size it could be recognized by AKC. One of the disadvantages in showing Standard size dachshunds is that in many cases they aren't over 22 pounds so a Tweenie size cannot compete in the miniature class and when entered in standard classes they look like runts, which of course, they are not! So whether you are thinking of getting a miniature or a standard, there is also another size to consider, the Tweenie! A most righteous choice as they are not too delicate, nor too huge! It is my personal favorite!

George is the newest addition to Splendor Farms show group! He is an absolute gorgeous black and cream dapple with champion bloodlines and an awesome set of ears, huge fat paws and no legs to speak of along with a straight top line.
A very happy young man! Pedigree coming.
